The arts are blooming in the gym. Artist in Residence, Susan Livengood, has her art studio in one of the upstairs classrooms. Another classroom is now an alternative art space display area.
Music has always been an important part of Appalachian heritage. The Fines Creek Community Center has a tradition of musical events. Contra dancing, Junior Appalachian Musicians, bluegrass groups, dulcimer players, gospel singers and a Bach chorale have all found a place in the Fines Creek Community Center. The Center has three performance sites—a raised outdoor stage, an indoor stage and a 300-seat auditorium.
Heritage traditions form an important place in the events at the community center. The Fines Creek Community Association (FCCA) hosts a ramp dinner in spring, a Heritage Festival in the fall, and provides a venue for traditional mountain music. The Center has hosted classes in home canning, wild crafting, and orienteering. Two community members demonstrated water dowsing and another gave lessons in repair of counter-weighted double-hung windows. Volunteers provide heritage tours of the Fines Creek School.
WNC Quilt Trail emphasize the importance of quilts and the art of quilting in the Appalachian region. FCCA designed its own quilt square representing the local namesake. See quilt square page.
