In 2018 members of the First Baptist Church of Waynesville volunteered to help the Fines Creek Community Association with numerous projects in our Community Center. The Baptist volunteers painted the exterior windows on the gym and walls in the long hall and in the kitchen. Youthful muscle men removed the old radiators from both buildings. A skilled floorsman repaired the dry rot in the gym floor. Men with heavy equipment and hand tools removed the collapsing concrete steps at the front of the gym. Carpenters built a new shed over the old furnace room and repaired the overhang at the kitchen door. Others patched walls, nailed trim and cleaned floors, walls, appliances, tables and chairs. For five days the community center brimmed with highly productive activity from many volunteers. The results of their labor were many and the center continues to benefit from all the work.
