Blue Ridge National Heritage Area Grant

The FCCA applied for and received a grant from the Blue Ridge National Heritage Area that began on April 1, 2015. The grant was written to help fund the upgrade of the gym to provide an indoor, four season performance space. The new performance space will allowed FCCA to expand our annual outdoor music event into a multiple performance series with additional heritage programs.

The goals of the project were:

The interior reverberation problems needed to be addressed with proper acoustic damping. The damping was achieved through the strategic placement of acoustic baffles. The acoustic baffles were  built by FCCA volunteers. The baffles were placed on walls and hung on steel cables attached to the purlins supporting the roof.

To address outdoor storm water management.

The interior of the gym was painted during the acoustic upgrade project.

Dual handrails were added to the stairway at the back of the gym to provide additional, safer emergency egress for individuals.

Minor electrical upgrades were accomplished concurrently with the acoustic damping.
